AlphaLuxe 2018 Christmas Message

Melvyn Teillol-Foo

Happy Christmas, Peaceful Hanukkah and Merry New Year!

Happy Holidays!

As we draw close to the end of 2018, a year that some may describe as a tad tumultuous, it is time to reflect.

This is not to say that there were no highlights but in general, brands were more conservative or cautious whilst geopolitical conditions and global economy were volatile and China clamped down on ostentatious luxury. Political unrest continued in Ukraine, the Balkans, Russia, France, Middle East and China, which, only added to uncertainty.

In the consumer business, uncertainty is Death.

Now, Brexit looms ahead for the EU in 2019.

As we are reading this on Christmas Day, some of us may already be looking ahead to the January / March 2019 Swiss watch expositions.

This brings me to a topic that is apt for the Christmas season: How much should you spend on a watch?

Or to put it another way: How much is too much?

That was sparked off by a discussion online at Luxe178 website about obsessive collectors or WIS (Watch Idiot Savants).

Although the raison d’etre of this magazine is luxury lifestyle, we find that the currency of modern luxury is social responsibility.

To this end, we commend efforts of brands like Chopard with a mission to drive the industry towards more sustainable and ethical practices with The Journey to Sustainable Luxury [click to read]

I wish all of you felicitations for Christmas and a Merry New Year!

Best regards,
