We are familiar with the annual Mille Miglia Race Edition watches that Chopard issues as a sponsor and timekeeper of the “most beautiful race in the world” in Italy. This year is their 30th anniversary of that classic rally sponsorship.

The initial connection was born from a personal passion for classic cars nurtured by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Chopard Co-President. Under his leadership, Chopard became the main sponsor of the Mille Miglia in 1988 and one of the first brands to associate its name with the automobile world.  For Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, the links are entirely natural: “Lovers of fine cars often have a great weakness for precious timepieces and vice versa. Extreme precision and sporting elegance are important in both these fields.”

Chopard developed the Mille Miglia chronograph collection to celebrate the engineering performance and elegance needed in both the watch and classic car race worlds.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the partnership with the Mille Miglia race in Italy, Chopard is proud to announce that it is the major sponsor of the 28th Annual California Mille. Taking cues from the original Italian open road race from Brescia to Rome that ran from 1927 to 1957, the California Mille is a 1,000 mile, four-day excursion through the quaint back roads and picturesque towns of northern California. This year, the event features over 70 classic cars manufactured before 1958.

California Mille Tour Start

On 15th April 2018, the public is invited to the largest free car show of its type before the drivers set off on their journey.

AlphaLuxe Comment

As an indication of increasing visibility and endeavour in the Americas, Chopard will commemorate the 2018 California Mille tour with a limited edition Mille Miglia Classic Chrono.

This 10-piece issue is a true limited edition rather than current industry practice of special editions “limited” to thousands of pieces!

Alas, the 10-piece limited edition series will only be available exclusively to participants of the California Mille. That is an exclusive club….please write and tell us about it!
