- #98 V8 Vantage GTE takes class victory in 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps 2017
- Aston Martin Racing take lead of both GTE Am championships
- Race on Saturday; Sell on Monday
On Saturday 6th May 2017, only a few months after Aston Martin launched the AMR brand to tout their racing pedigree, Aston Martin Racing took victory at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps; the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

From clinching pole position at qualifying, the trio of Paul Dalla Lana (Canada), Pedro Lamy (Portugal) and Mathias Lauda (Austria) powered to a race win without fault.
They garnered the maximum haul of 26 points – including an additional point for pole position – and the lead in both pilots’ and constructors’ GTE Am championships.
Their initial commanding lead in the early stages of the race was whittled down to only ten seconds by the #77 Porsche in the third hour. Three-times F1 World Champion Niki Lauda’s son, Mathias, held his nerve until the third round of pit stops before handing over to Paul Dalla Lana.
The Canadian surged ahead on fresh tyres and the team never looked back.
Pedro Lamy took the chequered flag over 31 seconds ahead of rivals for Aston Martin’s third consecutive win at Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
Paul Howarth, Aston Martin Racing Team Principal said, “Spa threw many challenges at the team but the team’s performance was flawless with world-class execution. That is probably one of the most important things in endurance racing. We now head to Le Mans for one of the biggest motorsport challenges in the world and the whole of Aston Martin Racing looks forward to and we come away from Spa leading the GTE Am championship”.
It certainly adds weight to the old showroom adage: “Race on Saturday; Sell on Monday!”
