I become giddy in the Spring. Knowing the cold and snow is behind me just makes me happy. I get particularly excited for NYC to clear out from Friday through Sunday and I make it a point to hit some of my favorite spots to enjoy some quiet, R&R… and no waiting!
The Star Lounge at the Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park South, has become a personal favorite over the past few Spring Seasons.
I find myself standing along Central Park South, waving “good bye” to the travelers who thought they would beat the traffic and head in for a cocktail and a light bite without hassle.
The decor is what I love most.
Something about eating and drinking on a couch in a restaurant without having to clean up afterwards really thrills me.
An assortment of neutral marble and carpet, with wooden paneling, blue and beige sofas or loveseats and the perfect amount of brass accents makes it feel like being in your “at home” library.
With legendary NYC bartender Norman Bukofzer behind the bar, Star Lounge offers a welcoming space across from Central Park.
The wines on offer include:
Champagnes Pierre Moncuit Grand Cru Cuvee Brut Rose and Cuvee Nicole Moncuit Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru Millesime Brut for the sparkling lover, Sancerre Karine et Christian Lauverjat – citrusy and crisp and Vintage Selection Cabernet Sauvignon Charles Krug, by Stacy Clark – full bodied and a bit of cherry and blackcurrant undertones.
Some of noted signature cocktails include, THE SHINING STAR, (Chilled Ketel One Citroen vodka, Cointreau, Fresh Lime and Cranberry Juice) and THE CENTRAL PARK SIDE CAR, (Calvados Adrien Camut, Sweet-and-Sour, Grand Marnier).
Local spirits include Hudson Single Malt Whiskey and Hudson Manhattan Rye from Gardiner NY, Rough Rider “Bull Moose” Three Barrel Rye from Baiting Hollow LI, and WhistlePig Straight Rye from Shoreham VT.
No, I did not have all of them at one visit!
The menu of food does not disappoint.
Favorites include: fois gras sliders, sushi flatbread and Asian crab salad.
The oysters are consistently delicious.
The Star Lounge is also home to Ritz-Carlton New York’s signature Afternoon Tea experience.
If you find yourself in midtown NYC and in need of a ‘reprieve’from the city, definitely make the Star Lounge your next stop.
