Hotel Review: The Ritz Carlton San Juan, Puerto Rico

Angela Ranieri

New York is feeling awfully chilly right now. The ice is like a freezer environment and I’m not enjoying it one bit.

As I trekked my son to school this morning, through slushy brown snow, I could not help but dream of a happier place.
Specifically, the Ritz Carlton San Juan in Puerto Rico.

Three hours flight on ‘Jet Blue’  and a 5 – 7 minute drive from the airport to the property; and you are whisked away to a magical universe of beach, sun, sand and cocktails.

Whisk me away…..

Sun & Sea

Sand & Cocktails

The lobby is marble, light, breezy and airy.

The rooms are pristine, in true Ritz fashion.

Clean, elegant, comfortable, and lots of toys for the little ones to choose.

Kids’ Activities

You can “park” your precious wunderkinds with lots of activities so you can spend ‘alone time’ with your ‘significant other’.    Perhaps that is the ultimate luxury, after all?

Bars & Restaurant

The hotel bar is immaculate with offerings of any wine, champagne, beer or Island cocktail that you can imagine (the Mojito is my personal favorite).

Beyond the bar is a beautiful restaurant that is open all day. This is a perfect option when traveling with little ones who may need some indoor time, out of the sun.
My son says the fries are, “the best ever.”

Lions by the Pool

The pool is exquisite. I think it’s the best one I’ve been in.

Its décor of large feature lions and rocks makes for a beautiful, stately atmosphere, while poolside snacks offered all day help keep you focused on getting your tan on.

For those who want a bit more ‘action’, the casino is very receptive.

San Juan

If you choose to leave the property, (you don’t need to but in case), the ‘Metropol Hato Rey’ restaurant at 244 Roosevelt Avenue in San Juan is awesome for authentic Cuban and Puerto Rican food. Founded in 1965 by José (Pepe) Canosa, a Cuban immigrant, there are now 8 outlets across the island.
The late Muhammad Ali was a fan of the restaurant.
